The implementation of our program would begin in kindergarten in the first year and would expand each year until fully implemented in elementary and secondary grades. Additionally, a new group of kindergarten students would begin each year. The program encourages participation by English- and Spanish language-speaking students. Approximately 60 students are needed in Kindergarten to support starting the program. The district is committed to programmatic support through 8th grade.
Our overarching programmatic goals include:
To encourage students to study world languagesTo certify the attainment of biliteracy skills (SEAL of Biliteracy) – for employers and for collegesTo communicate the value of language diversityTo prepare students with 21st century skills that will benefit them in the labor market and the global economyTo honor the multiple cultures and languages in our community through intergroup relationships (Olsen, Laurie.
