Meta-Analysis, April 24-26, 2018
Meta-Analysis - Course Description
Meta-analysis is defined as the systematic summarization of studies with
similar outcomes or endpoints. At present, high-quality systematic reviews and meta-analyses remain the gold standard in providing evidence on the efficacy or effectiveness of interventions in clinical medicine and public health.

This course is intended for researchers who are interested in acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary to independently carry out a meta-analysis. While not necessarily the focus of this short course, critical steps in systematic review – the pre-requisite to a successful meta-analysis – will also be covered in the course, albeit not extensively.
It will include didactics on the steps in the conduct of a meta-analysis including critical steps in a systematic review.

These didactics will be reinforced with hands-on laboratory sessions (or workshops) on literature search, risk of bias assessment, extraction and conversion of numerical data, meta-analysis of binary and continuous outcomes, and assessment of publication bias. Laboratory sessions will be carried out in groups, and findings or results from these “directed” meta-analyses will be presented in plenary.
