March with API Equality-LA on Lunar New Year! (Saturday, Feb. 4)
Join us as we welcome in the Year of the Rooster and provide an LGBTQ presence at Chinatown’s largest celebration! Over the past few years, we have been the largest contingent in the Golden Dragon Parade, bringing together our members and API LGBTQ community partners to march in support of social justice and liberation for queer and transgender people.

When
Assemble at noon (12 p.m.) on Saturday, February 4, 2017. During the pre-parade assembly, we will provide limited quantities of sandwiches and bottled water, give instructions, and distribute shirts and parade materials, so please come early! The parade begins at 1 p.m.

Where
Courtyard of the Hall of Records, located at 320 W. Temple St., Los Angeles, CA. The courtyard is located on Hill St., just south of Temple St. There is a ramp accessible to the courtyard.

If you arrive after 12:45 PM, proceed directly to the staging area on Hill St. between Temple St. and Cesar E. Chavez Bl. and ask for the API Equality-LA unit or look for our red T-shirts.

Transportation
Public parking is available for $8 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, located at 555 W. Temple St., Los Angeles, 90012, which a block away from our meeting location at the Hall of Records. Other commercial parking lots are also available near City Hall and Olivera Street.

Our meeting location is also easily accessible using the Metro Red Line. Exit at the Civic Center station and go half a block up Hill St. to the courtyard behind the Los Angeles County Hall of Records.

Costumes/Shirts/Signs
We ask that you wear API Equality-LA shirts for the entire duration of the parade for a uniform look and presentation of our unit. If you do not already have one, you may purchase one for a suggested donation of $5 at the parade meeting location. If you are coming with an organization or group, you are encouraged to bring your organizational banner and carry it during the parade.

Parade Details and Rules
The Golden Dragon Parade route is around 1.6 miles in total and the parade will take a total of two hours. We do not have cars or floats, but we welcome users of wheelchairs, scooters, and strollers as they are able. Water will be distributed throughout the parade within our contingent by our volunteers. The parade will go through Chinatown with line up starting on Hill Street and Temple Street. Then we go down Hill toward Bernard and turns right toward Broadway. The second half of the parade goes down Broadway and finishes under the dragon gates on Broadway and Cesar Chavez Ave. For your reference, the whole parade route, including our meeting location at the L.A. Hall of Records, is mapped on Google Maps here: https://goo.gl/maps/NavmNmV8xmQ2

To preserve the celebratory nature of the parade, all units are subject to the parade rules set by the event organizers. We ask that you observe these rules at all times for the safety and well-being of all parade-goers. Please refrain from throwing or handing out any objects or literature to people along the parade route, carrying signs or wearing any clothing with a political message, engaging in any conduct that endangers the safety of parade-goers or casts a negative light on API Equality-LA or the event organizers. By marching with API Equality-LA, participants agree to observe the parade rules as requested by the event organizers and API Equality-LA’s parade committee.

For the health and safety of community members with chemical sensitivities, we ask that attendees come fragrance-free and avoid wearing scented products before coming to the parade. This includes perfume, deoderant, hairspray, etc. More details available here: http://www.eastbaymeditation.org/accessibility/fragrancefree.html

We recognize that not everyone is able to participate in the whole parade. People are encouraged to join and leave the parade as feels best for their bodies; we encourage that anyone who plans to leave early travel with a friend. If you have any accessibility concerns not addressed here, please contact Audrey Kuo at audrey@apiequalityla.org or 213-580-1800.
