Take Shelter at Downs Junior School general volunteer form
The Air Raid Shelters under the DJS playground lay undiscovered for 35 years until the 1980’s and since then have very rarely been opened up to the local community. FODJ and Mr Button decided to change all that by revitalising the shelters for the local community and to aid children's learning. The Take Shelter events celebrate the amazing history of DJS during the war years.

This May we will once again be opening our wonderful shelters for tours, and if last year is anything to go by we are expecting a great turn out. While the tours are taking place underground we will be hosting 1940s themed stalls and activities in the playground which will include a live music act each day (for details see www.takeshelter.org.uk or check out our Take Shelter facebook page ). To make the events a success we need parents to support us by volunteering to help on a stall. Last year volunteers had a great time so why not sign up and get into the wartime spirit! Thank you
