READ FIRST:

Below, select a language from the drop-down menu for which you would like to provide data.  If you'd like to provide data for more than one language, that's great!  Please complete the Google Form for one language before providing data for another.  If you would like to provide data for a language that does not appear on the list, please contact Evan (evan.defrancesco@gmail.com).  

Try to represent your input as phonetic rather than orthographic.  We want to know what terms sound like, not necessarily what they look like.  When providing data, you may use either the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) or some either method of transcription.  For purposes of data analysis, the entries mama and [mama]  for example, will all be treated as the same term.  

If the language has more than one term for a certain kinship relation, please include all terms.  If using the IPA, please format like so: [mama, ma, ama].  

*Please indicate STRESS and TONE in your input when applicable.  You may do so either by using IPA notation or writing an explicit description.  

Note that you will be asked to provide both the kinship and vocative terms for some relations.  For our purposes, the 'kinship' term would be what you would use when speaking about the relation in the third person.  For instance, in English, this is oftentimes 'mother'.  The 'vocative' term is what you would use when calling the relation directly.  For example, what name would you call if your mother were outside and you wanted to get her attention?  In English, this may be 'mama'.  Be sure that you are providing the proper term in the relevant box.

It might be the case that the language doesn't make a distinction between certain relations.  That's okay!  If that's the case, then simply write the relevant term in both boxes.  

If you don't know a term for a particular kinship relation, that's okay, too!  Simply leave that box blank and move on to the next one.  Any data that you can provide is immensely helpful.  

We plan to make the database available for public use at the end of the project.  Your name will not in any way be connected to the data you provide.
