What is WHS?
“Workplace Health and Safety (WHS)" is the discipline concerned with protecting the health and safety of all stakeholders in the workplace from exposure to hazards and risks resulting from work activities”(Workplace Health & Safety, n.d.).
Workplace Health and Safety requires employers to provide something called a ‘Duty of Care’ which ensures:
• A safe working environment is provided and maintained.
• Safe systems of work are provided and maintained.
• Safe use, handling and storage of plant, structures and substances are upheld.
• The provision of adequate facilities.
• Adequate information, training, instruction and supervision are given to workers
needed for them to work without risks to their heath and safety and that of
others around them.
• Effective systems are in place for monitoring the health of workers and workplace
conditions.
• Maintenance of the owned or managed premises is upheld which ensures the health
and safety of workers.
