Part Time Student Intern
As a student intern at a veterinary clinic, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in a professional veterinary setting. This position is designed to provide you with exposure to various aspects of veterinary medicine, animal care, and clinic operations. You will work closely with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and other staff members, assisting them in their daily tasks and learning about the field of veterinary medicine.
Responsibilities:
Animal Handling and Care:
Assist veterinary staff in handling and restraining animals during examinations, treatments, and procedures.
Provide basic care and ensure the well-being of animals in the clinic, including feeding, walking, and cleaning.
Observe and report any changes in animal behavior, appetite, or physical condition to the veterinary team.
Clinic Assistance:
Prepare examination rooms and treatment areas by cleaning and organizing supplies.
Assist with the sterilization and maintenance of veterinary instruments and equipment.
Help maintain a clean and sanitary clinic environment by performing tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and laundry.
Observational Learning:
Observe and learn from veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations, surgeries, and other procedures.
Participate in discussions and attend training sessions to enhance your understanding of veterinary medicine.
Ask questions and seek clarification to deepen your knowledge and gain insight into the field.
Professional Conduct:
Maintain a high level of professionalism, respecting client confidentiality and adhering to clinic policies and procedures.
Demonstrate punctuality, reliability, and a strong work ethic.
Follow safety protocols to ensure the well-being of animals, staff, and yourself.
Qualifications:
Must be a current high school or college student, at least 16 years old.
Strong interest in veterinary medicine and a desire to pursue a career in the field.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
Compassion for animals and a commitment to their well-being.
Ability to follow directions and attention to detail.
Basic computer skills for administrative tasks.
Physical stamina and the ability to handle and lift animals of various sizes (with assistance).
Please note that as an intern, you will not be performing any veterinary procedures or making independent medical decisions. Your role is primarily observational and supportive, focusing on learning and assisting the veterinary team.
