Music Department Merit Award Application for AY 2021-22
PLEASE READ THE AWARD DESCRIPTIONS CAREFULLY, then answer all questions completely. Descriptions are based on language specified by the award donor and not by the Music Department. All awards have an associated financial grant of at least $500; the POSVAR and CURKA Scholarships have considerably larger awards and are administered by the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid. All award recipients are selected by the Music Department Merit Award Committee. APPLICATIONS ARE NOT COMPLETE UNTIL ALL SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED.
The Alfred d'Auberge Scholarship
Awarded to a student pursuing a MAJOR in music for achievement in music performance or scholarship.
The Leonard S. and Mildred E. Gerlowski Student Award
Awarded to a student who plays a MUSICAL INSTRUMENT and participates in one or more local public PERFORMANCES during the school year. Preference will be given to students who play the violin.
The Mildred Miller Posvar Scholarship
Awarded for outstanding performance or scholarship to a student entering his or her SENIOR year who is pursuing a declared MAJOR in any field of music. (Funds administered by Pitt's Office of Admissions and Financial Aid)
The Anita J. Curka Scholarship
Awarded for OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE (preference is given to those studying voice or piano) to a student entering his or her JUNIOR or SENIOR year who is a resident of PENNSYLVANIA and pursuing a degree in music. The student should also demonstrate personal qualities that distinguish them as role models. (Funds administered by Pitt's Office of Admissions and Financial Aid)
