Background
The Engineering for People Design Challenge is a global design initiative for university students, by Engineers Without Borders. Every year over 7,000 students participate in South Africa, UK, Ireland and the USA to understand the importance of globally responsible engineering and develop professional skills required when they enter the workplace.

Our programme encourages students to demonstrate a real understanding of the social, environmental, economic, and ethical implications of engineering. Being part of the Engineering for People Design Challenge provides the chance for students to investigate and respond to real world issues at an early stage of their university degree.

The programme is embedded into undergraduate curriculum and to date, over 40,000 students have taken part since the programme was launched in 2011. Each year the programme culminates in the Grand Finals; an inter-university event where the top teams from each participating university showcase their ideas to industry judges.
