Thank you for your support of our amazing school. Volunteering is a wonderful way to get to know other parents and to be a part of the Cherokee Bend community. We have a fun year planned for our Chiefs and their families! There's something for everyone and WE NEED YOU!

CHIEF SPONSORS: Chairs and committee members solicit family and business sponsorships and coordinate fulfillment of sponsor benefits throughout the school year.
RED AND YELLOW COLOR RUN (RYR): Committee members assist Chairs to plan, promote and implement a Color Run in Fall 2019. This is a fun, family event that promotes fitness with a one mile color run. Family picnic "After Party" and fun on the field following the run.
GIFT WRAP: Committee assists Chairs with promotion and execution of Fall 2019 gift wrap sale.
BENEFIT FOR THE BEND: An adult only evening in Winter 2020, which includes a live and silent auction, to benefit our school. Chairs and committee promote and plan event. Committee responsibilities include coordinating volunteers, procuring auction donations, setting up/decorations, accounting for event.
CARNIVAL: Committee assists with promotion and execution of a day of extreme fun for our kids in May 2020! Committee responsibilities include booth staffing, decorations, snacks and hospitality for volunteers.
CBS PARTIES: Help plan and organize parent parties throughout the year to benefit our school. Past examples include Girlapalooza, Parents NERF Night Out, Derby Party.
SPORTSWEAR: Coordinate sportswear promotion, sales and distribution at Meet and Greet in August 2019.
EBEND: Execute an online auction offering school related items such as "First in line for carpool" and "Announcer for the day". Also assists in coordination of fulfillment of EBEND winners.
REBATE PROGRAMS: Chair oversees merchant rebate programs and spirit nights. Committee assists in coordinating and promoting events and organizing reward parties for class winners. Example: Box Tops for Education and Spirit Nights.
EXPRESSIONS ART CONTEST: Chairs and committee help facilitate execution of the MB Schools student art competition in Winter 2019. Chairs and committee promote the contest, help organize entries to be judged and plan a reception for participants.
WRITERS FESTIVAL: Chairs and committee work with the Media Specialists and other elementary schools to coordinate this system-wide MB Schools event which encourages and enriches reading through presentations by authors and illustrators.
FAIR OAKS ADVENTURE CURRICULUM (FOAC) CAMPOUT COORDINATORS: Committee communicates throughout the year with 5th and 6th grade parents regarding campout information. Committee also coordinates and purchases food/supplies for 5th and 6th grade FOAC campouts.
VETERANS DAY: Chair and committee help plan the 4th grade Veterans Day program in November. Responsibilities include creating a slideshow of 4th graders families' veterans. This is a very meaningful CBS program!
HELPING HANDS: Assist children in the lunch room. Responsibilities include helping with trays, opening drinks and cleaning up. This is a wonderful opportunity to spend two hours a month with CBS children!
BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT: Assist with teacher snacks, decorating and set up. This event is held soon after school starts.
SAFETY PATROL: Committee helps 5th and 6th grade with safety patrol schedules, weekly breakfasts and year end party.
6TH GRADE MINI COURSES: Committee assists in planning 6th grade mini courses held in May 2020. (6th grade parents)
COMMUNITY AWARENESS/CHIEFS GIVE BACK: Promote and execute drives and other ways to help the broader Birmingham community. Examples include book drives, toy drives, coat drives.
YEARBOOK: Chairs and committee produce the CBS yearbook, including layout and photographs.
GRADUATING MOMS' LUNCHEON: Plan and host a lunch in May 2020 for mothers whose last child is graduating from CBS.
KINDERGARTEN COORDINATORS: Assist Administration in planning an incoming Kindergarten parent orientation in the spring. Responsibilities also include organizing the incoming Kindergarten playgroup, helping with the "Sip and Sob", and delivering Carnival invitations to rising Kindergarten students. Committee also plans Meet and Greet welcome activities in August for Kindergarten students. Preferably a parent with a Kindergartner.
MEET AND GREET: Organize and set up the Auditorium for the event held the day before school starts.
NEW FAMILY: Chair and committee plan an event for students and families that are new to CBS before school starts. Provide hospitality to new families throughout the year.
TEACHER APPRECIATION: Chairs and committee plan and organize Teacher Appreciation Week in the spring. Chairs create a sign up schedule for committee members to provide breakfast items each month for teacher birthdays.
TEACHER LUNCHES: Chairs plan and coordinate and committee helps provide items for lunches during conferences in the fall and spring. Much appreciated by our teachers!
DIRECTORY: Assist in the production of the CBS Directory during summer and early fall. (Graphic design experience would be a plus!) Editors needed too.
SMOKE SIGNALS: Create the quarterly online newsletter that connects our CBS Community.
PTO HOSPITALITY: Chairs and committee provide refreshments for General PTO meetings, two Mountain Brook Schools Board of Education meetings and other CBS special events. This committee helps our guests feel welcome!
ROOM MOTHERS: Assist teachers and keep class parents informed of school activities, field trips, parties and fundraisers. Also responsible for either attending or finding at least one parent in each class to attend each general PTO meeting. Each class will have two room mothers.
MIGHTY MEN/WOMEN OF THE BEND: Committee helps set up and break down for school events. Example: Carnival, Red and Yellow Run.
AMBASSADORS LIAISON: Assist 6th grade Ambassadors with CBS tours and activities.
ART TEACHER LIAISON: Assist the Art teacher with student projects throughout the year, including Art Nights.
MUSIC LIAISON: Support the music teacher and help prepare for musical programs throughout the year.
LIBRARY LIAISON: Assist Media Specialists with the library as needed. Assist with Book Fairs in the Fall and Spring.
SPECIAL EDUCATION LIAISON: Assist special education teachers and aides as needed throughout the year. Includes coordination of Special Olympics.
MEDIA LIASION: Promote our wonderful school to our community! Share photos and brief narratives about what is happening at our school with local media outlets. (Village Living, OTMJ)
ALL IN: Assist our CBS ALL IN representative with system-wide events (i.e. Parenting conference) throughout the year.
MEDIA BOARD LIAISON: Create slides for lobby Media Board to communicate school events.
LOST AND FOUND: Chair organizes CBS' Lost and Found, facilitates return of items and coordinates donations as needed.
GROUNDS: Help keep our school beautiful! Responsible for maintenance of planted areas in front of the CBS sign and planters at entrance of school.
