The MassGeneral Hospital for Children Food Allergy Buddies Program is a unique pilot program designed to build community and confidence among children managing food allergies in the Boston area. Food allergies can be a challenging experience for children and adolescents as they learn the steps to confidently make safe choices and advocate for themselves.
In this program, younger children with food allergies will be assigned to a group with same-age peers as well as high school-age mentors. Together, they will tackle common challenges and practice the skills necessary to manage their food allergies with confidence. Mentors will also be leading fun, team building events, games and activities with their younger buddies. We hope both the older and younger children will benefit from this teaching and reinforcement, finding community, friendship, and confidence.
