Please carefully read this form in its entirety. Classes are held at SLA main campus (126 St Felix St, Brooklyn) unless otherwise noted as ANNEX (132 4th Place, Brooklyn)

* Walk-over from local schools
Walk-over is available from local schools for a fee. If you are in interested in walk-over from another school to SLA, please e-mail Elizabeth Lahart at elahart@slaschool.org.

* Drop-in Aftercare
Drop-in Aftercare costs $35/day and is based on availability. Please e-mail Elizabeth Lahart at elahart@slaschool.org for inquiries.

* Gap Aftercare is 90 minutes of aftercare.
This is for children who are taking ONE enrichment class but need care until 6pm AND for children who need aftercare only but will be picked no later than 4:30pm, you need to register for GAP Aftercare on the form below.

* Daily Aftercare is aftercare for more than 90 minutes.
This is for children who have no enrichment on a given day and need aftercare to go later than 4:30 pm (ALL Aftercare ends at 6:00 PM.)

3:30–4:30
Dance Around the World (in French) with Stephanie Larrière, director of Brooklyn Beanstalk (grades 2-5) – $325
Location: Dance Studio

Music and Dance are languages understood beyond words. Through sound and movement, dancers will take an odyssey from North America to South America to Africa. Students will explore body language, rhythm, space, and dynamics, and connect through dance traditions from around the globe.

(Stephanie Larrière is a French performing artist who has been incorporating a large variety of art forms to teach children for the last fifteen years. She is the founder and director of Brooklyn Beanstalk, a Brooklyn-based language and arts program.)

Puppetry (in French) with SLA teacher Stephanie Larrrière, director of Brooklyn Beanstalk (grades PK-1) – $325
Location: SLA classroom

Welcome to the world of puppetry, where spoons dance the Nutcracker and socks sing along! Children will visit this medium of storytelling where objects get a life of their own. They will craft their own puppets such as hand and shadow puppets all while practicing their French.

Chinese Language & Folk Dance (in Mandarin) with Mei-Yin Ng, SLA teacher and founder of The Laurel Project
(grades 2-5) - $350
Location: Dance Studio

Students will learn classical Chinese folk dance forms all while being immersed in Mandarin instruction.

(Mei-Yin Ng is a professional dancer and Mandarin teacher of Chinese descent born in Malaysia. She is a longtime teaching artist who received fourteen years of training in both Chinese language and the performing arts, studying at renowned cultural and arts institutions worldwide.)

Chess (in English) with New York Chess and Games (grades PK–1) - $350
Location: SLA classroom

All levels. The joys of chess are explored in a fun, pressure-free environment with teachers specially trained to teach young children.

Shaolin Kung Fu (in English) with David Fung of Manhattan Shaolin Kung Fu (grades 2–5) – $350
Location: Dance Studio

Children will learn the fundamentals of traditional Shaolin training, including stance work, stretching, and drills in a fun and high-energy class.

Poetry & Improvisational Games (in French) with Nadia Ketouré (grades PK–1) – $325
Location: SLA classroom

Children will discover the infinite imaginative world of French poetry and imagery, learn to recite a favorite poem as a class, and play improvisational games. In this way, children will learn and practice new French vocabulary and structures in a fun and creative way.

BEGINS September 14, last class December 14. (no class on September 21or November 23)

3:15–4:30
Soccer Club (in French) co-taught with Christophe Mouraux and Alex Lelarge (grades 2–5) – $360
Location: South Oxford or Fort Greene Park (pick up and dismissal from SLA, 126 St Felix Street)

In this high-action class, held outdoors at local parks, students will learn the fundamentals of soccer, hone in on motor skills with ball and passing drills, and conclude each session with a scrimmage. On poor-weather days, children will play strategic and board games indoors in French.

Mandarin through Storytelling & Art (in Mandarin) with Mei-Yin Ng, SLA teacher and founder of The Laurel Project

Location: SLA classroom

In this animated class, children will follow along to an engaging story in Chinese and then try their hand at an art project inspired by what they have heard and seen.

Stop Motion Animation (in English) with The Good School (grades 2–5) – $430
Location: SLA classroom

​Join us for this exciting season of Fall Botanical Arts Animation, where we explore the art of filmmaking with the lens turned to organic, living, natural materials. Watch flowers bloom before your eyes and bring natural worlds to life using professional grade stop motion animation filmmaking equipment. Students learn the natural growth cycle of plants and explore the importance of plants on our world. The finished films can can downloaded and shared via online link again and again!

3:30–4:30 Art (in French) with Maya Korenbeusser (Grades PK–1) – $325
Location: SLA classroom

In this French-led class, students will delve into and be inspired by the works of several world renowned artists. For example, upon examining works of Frida Khalo, we will paint portaits and dreams, of Matisse, we will draw with scissors and study negative and positive space, and of Andy Warhol, we will play with printmaking and pop art.

Gardening at ANNEX (in English) with Brooklyn Seeds (PK 2's, 3's, 4's) – $325
Location: 132 4th Place SLA ANNEX

This ever-popular class returns to the SLA Annex! With Brooklyn Seeds' beloved gardening educators, children will be planting fall bulbs, taking nature walks, learning about and caring for our neighborhood trees, studying birds, insects, and native plants, and growing their own organic food.

Policies and Guidelines
1. Registration
Please fill out the registration form indicating the class(es) you wish to register your child for.

2. Payment
SLA now accepts credit cards for Aftercare and Enrichment programs. Payment in full is due before the first class. Please make checks payable to SLA or use our online payment system (link will be on invoice). Non-payment will result in loss of registration.

3. Class size
SLA reserves the right to cancel any class if enrollment is inadequate.

4. Attendance
Students should arrive early so that the class may begin on time. Students arriving more than 15 minutes late for class will not be admitted.

5. Responsibilities of parents and guardians
a) Inform SLA of any medical and/or physical problems your child may have.
b) Be sure you and your children talk and walk quietly in the hallways and lobby. We share our building with a music school, and other children are having music lessons at the same time our classes are in session.
c) Please be prompt picking up your child from class. There is a charge for late pick-ups.

6. Food and food allergies
Aftercare provides whole-grain Goldfish, oatmeal squares (dry cereal), or graham crackers, but we encourage you to pack an extra-healthy snack for your child (no nuts please) as well as a water bottle. If your child has a food allergy, please make sure to pack an individual snack each day.

7. Refunds and credits
There are no refunds, except in the event the class is canceled by SLA. Credit is considered in some cases such as long-term health issues.

8. Transfers
Transfers are subject to availability. No transfers will be issued after the second week of class.
