I enjoy looking up and seeing a sky full of stars on a moonless night, and I care about the health of our beautiful landscape and the plants and animals within it. I support the efforts of
Friends of Avi Kwa Ame, the Las Vegas Astronomical Society, and their partners in celebrating our area’s dark night skies through their application to have Avi Kwa Ame National Monument become an
International Dark Sky Park through the non-profit organization
Dark Sky International. A
Dark Sky Park designation will ensure consistent monitoring of our local monument’s night sky as a resource, and will lead to improvements in public access, education, and monument visitation, as well as providing opportunities for enjoyment of the night sky through community astronomy events. I support this application and encourage local leaders to write a formal letter of support for this project.
