AWC Conference 2023 Registration
September 8-10, 2023

The Alabama Writers' Cooperative presents this year's conference as part of its 100th anniversary celebration. From 1923-2023, the AWC has promoted writers, offered educational opportunities, and events.

Our focus is to nurture and engage a diverse community of Alabama writers, and we look forward to many more, wonderful years bringing that goal to fruition.

Registration is required. Manuscript consultations in poetry and fiction are available to AWC members only. Please follow the link below to become a member or to renew your membership if you'd like to register for one of these options.

$175 full conference fee
$150 student discount
$90 Saturday workshops only
$95 Saturday Awards Banquet only 

About this year's conference:

-The AWC is partnering with the Birmingham Public Library Central Branch, Avenue D, and UAB Spencer Honors House for an in-person conference and 100th anniversary celebration

-The keynote speaker is Alabama Poet Laureate Ashley Jones

-The conference will include free manuscript consultations for AWC members -- first come, first serve, space is limited

-Manuscript consultations: Members may submit up to 10 pages and each will be conducted through email exchange
TK Thorne (fiction) will accept the first 10 registrations
Sue Brannan Walker (poetry) will accept the first 10 registrations
Saundra Grace (poetry) will accept the first 10 registrations

-Friday will start with registration/check in at 1 p.m. and will feature a faculty and AWC member bookstore & workshops at Birmingham Public Library - Central, followed by an Open Mic Night.

-The Saturday schedule will feature workshops from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at Avenue D, followed by an Author Panel, where Susan Cushman (moderator), Wendy Reed (essayist) and Jacqueline Trimble (poet) will discuss writing about angels and mystical experiences.

-Saturday Night's Awards Banquet at Avenue D will begin with a Wine Social at 6 p.m., followed by dinner catered by Homewood Gourmet, a keynote address by Alabama Poet Laureate Ashley Jones, and AWC Contest Awards Ceremony and readings.

-Sunday's line up will feature morning workshops followed by the AWC annual membership meeting where AWC members will nominate & elect new board members.
