Bret Harte School 4th Grade Instrument Sign-Up
Dear Parents:
As a 4th grader, instrumental music lessons are offered during the day and are free of charge. Because instrumental music is so beneficial to the development of children, we urge every student to try a band or orchestra instrument at least once. Those that do well will be invited to join our school band or orchestra as soon as they are reach a certain skill level.
For those in need of an instrument, special arrangements have been made with three different rental companies, please read each of their rental information and chose what ever company you feel is best. COLE’S MUSIC, MUSIC & ARTS CENTER, and NEMC provide high quality instruments with a fair rent-to-own plan. By using this plan you may determine what interest in music your child has without a large financial obligation. The cost to rent most instruments for one semester (four and a half months) starts at $39.99 depending on the rental company you choose. Saxophones and a few other instruments are somewhat higher. If you do not have a major credit card, a security deposit will be required to obtain the instrument. Your rental fees can be applied to the purchase of your instrument or you can return the instrument at the end of the trial period. All students must also acquire a lesson book at a cost of around $15.00. Some of the companies also offer free rental during the summer months if you enroll your student in the district summer music program. Information regarding the summer music program can be found on the district web page.
Please remember that your child’s instrument is the vehicle that brings the total musical experience to life. Though they may all look alike, rest assured that a good musical instrument can go a long way toward making the musical experience a positive one. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU OBTAIN A QUALITY INSTRUMENT if you choose to obtain your instrument from a source other than Cole’s Music, Music & Arts Center or NEMC. If you find something you would like to buy, PLEASE email me first. I will tell you if it is a quality instrument worth considering.
