The UN and the Future of Multilateralism in the New World Disorder with Le Monde diplomatique
The relationship between the United States and the countries of Europe has been a cornerstone of the liberal world order established during the Bretton Woods conference and the wake of World War II. However, it is increasingly apparent that the relationship is under strain and that other countries and regions have potentially conflicting visions regarding how the regulation of international society should be achieved, specifically concerning the legacy of the Bretton Woods Institutions and the future of United Nations and multilateralism.

The NYU Program in International Relations is therefore pleased to partner with LeMonde Diplomatique to offer a series of three discussions on the future of transatlantic relations and the maintenance of the liberal world order in the coming decade. Each event will focus on a specific pillar of the relationship and will include speakers from the United States, Europe, and Canada.

The conference will include as speakers Ambassador Tomas Anker Christensen, Former Chief of Staff of the UN General Assembly President; Aymeric Chuzeville, Spokesperson, Chief of Staff, French Mission to the UN: Franz Baumann, Former UN Secretary General Assistant and IR Visiting Scholar; Anne-Cécile Robert from Le Monde diplomatique; and Romuald Sciora, Head of Le Monde diplomatique Debates. The debate will be moderated by the Program Director of International Relations, Professor Michael J. Williams, with an introduction by Pamela Falk, PSF UN Resident Correspondent & CBS Foreign Affairs Analyst.

These events are open to the public and the media are welcome to attend.
