About the
Speaker
Dr.
Kyonghwan Park is a Professor in the Department of Geography Education at
Chonnam National University, South Korea. He received his Bachelor’s and
Master’s Degrees in South Korea, and received his doctoral degree in 2005 from
the Department of Geography, University of Kentucky. The title of his
dissertation was “Transnational Urbanism in Diaspora Space: Multi-scaled Urban
Redevelopment of Los Angeles Koreatown”. Since 2006, he has taught Social
Geography, Economic Geography, and History of Geographic Thoughts at Chonnam
National University.
Dr.
Park’s principal areas of research include diaspora space, transnational
economy, and local/regional economic development. Dr. Park’s research approach
incorporates qualitative methods such as discourse analysis, archival research,
and in-depth interviews, and he also utilizes statistical data for complementing qualitative analysis. He currently studies
how post-globalization and geopolitical reterritorialization would influence
transnational economic relations and local/regional spaces.
