Dear Carolina West Coaches and Students,

Below is the application for the Carolina West World Schools Debate team for the NSDA National Tournament in June 2023.

World Schools Debate is a format in which teams of 3-5 debate a combination of prepared motions (for which we will research and write cases) and impromptu motions (which are released 1 hour prior to the round and require students to prepare using only teammates' knowledge).

The coaches of the World Schools Teams will review the applications and select 10 students to populate the two World Schools Teams (5 competitors each), plus three alternates.

Before applying, please be sure that you are committed to competing in WSD (learning the format, researching cases, attending weekly practices in the spring, etc.), as the goal is to form highly competitive teams. Students who are selected but demonstrate a lack of commitment may be dismissed from the team and replaced with an alternate.

You may submit an application for any students who did not qualify in another NSDA event OR has preferenced World Schools on their Single Entry Letter of Intent. Please be sure that each student is committed to competing in World Schools Debate (researching cases, attending practices, etc.), as the goal is to form highly competitive teams.

Coaches are limited to 4 applications per school.

Please ask students to complete the short response questions independently, and send them to you; coaches should input their answers and complete the coach portion of the application. Applications will only be accepted from a coach email address. Please also "seed" your students as #1 = top choice, #2 = second choice, etc.

As per NSDA rules, World Schools competitors may register for supplemental and consolation events at the National Tournament.
