Dear Parents/Guardians,
As the 2023-24 school year draws to close, ECPPS leaders are already planning for the 2024-25 school year. Our After School Enrichment Program (ASEP), has seen a significant reduction in enrollment and, in turn, is no longer self-sustaining. Rather than shut down the program, we are looking at viable options to continue to provide this valuable service without additional expense to the district. One option that has been presented is
for ECPPS to partner with the YMCA who is interested in taking over operations of the ASEP program.
The YMCA has proposed operating an after school program at each of our elementary school sites next year. The weekly fee will be between $70-75, with discounts available for those who qualify through their Open Doors program. The Y's after school program will include daily homework help, enriching activities, and a snack.
In order for the YMCA to be able to operate the program, there must be a minimum number of students enrolled. We are asking parents of students who will be enrolled in any of the six elementary schools next year to complete this brief survey. Results of the survey will be used to determine the direction of the after school program.
(Notes: Pasquotank Elementary will not offer a program due to repurposing the school, but parents should respond using the school name their child/children have been assigned to attend next year.
PW Moore Elementary is included in the proposal and survey but MAY be operating an after school program under the 21st Century Community Schools grant, if awarded in mid-July.)
If you have questions, please use the space provided within the survey or contact Dr. Katina Jones-Waples, Executive Director of Elementary Schools, at kwaples@ecpps.k12.nc.us .
Parents/Guardians can expect to receive communication regarding the ASEP program for next year
by June 5th.
Thank you for your input!
