ONE APAC Fall Retreat: Roots
Calling all students in the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community and allies at George Mason to join the Asian Pacific American Coalition (APAC) for a one day, FREE retreat! All students are welcome to attend and learn more about themselves, the AAPI community, and connect with people from all over George Mason. There will be a balance of community building and workshops surrounding identity development, leadership and organizational success, and social issues that impact the AAPI community.

The retreat will take place from 10am - 4:30pm in Merten Hall, 1201 on Saturday, November 9, 2019. There will be breakfast from Einstein's Bagels and lunch from Mum Mum and Kababayan provided to all participants. Individuals do not need to be members of RSO's to be able to attend - all are welcome!

The theme of this year's retreat is "Roots". George Mason is home to a thriving AAPI population made up of passionate student leaders, nurturing faculty & staff, and supportive community members. As a growing group on campus, each year we welcome more and more AAPI folks to not only join our organizations, but become leaders in our greater community. However, with the lack of AAPI representation in educational curricula, most of our community members never had opportunities to learn about AAPI identity, history, and issues. In this year's retreat, we hope to introduce our rich history, showcase our multiplicity in identities, and model active community engagement. We also aim to equip our AAPI leaders with the skills necessary to sustain themselves and the community. As we explore our collective roots as Asian American and Pacific Islanders though history and issues, may we also discover what keeps us rooted in our identities and community.

If you are no longer able to attend, please contact Danny Le, APAC Internal Vice President, at ple23@gmu.edu. We look forward to seeing you there!
