A total of approximately 128 youth (ages 12-17) will participate in Trails this upcoming year. All participating youth attend Trails for one weekend a month during the school year from October to May and for two weeks every summer.
Our programme is unique because:1. Prevention: we don’t aim to rehabilitate or treat any one specific issue, but to instill practical skills, relevant knowledge and the confidence to use them to increase the chances of success for vulnerable youth. 2. Constancy & Sustained Contact: beginning at the vulnerable age of 12, our programme is designed to unfold over the entire year and over the course of four years. As a constant year-round presence, we are accessible as a stable source of guidance for youth, parents and teachers. 3. One-to-One Mentoring and Small Group Emphasis: to ensure maximum impact for our participants, each youth receives regular one-on-one meetings with staff to set goals, review behaviour, practice emotional literacy and provide an opportunity to “be heard”.
