Ignite NC Spring 2020 Fellowship Application
More than five years ago, Ignite NC emerged in response to the lack of resources available for young people across North Carolina who wanted to shift policy and make the conditions better for their families and communities. Since then, through our tailored fellowship program, we have equipped young people across the state with critical skills like base building, and direct action, and the political analysis they need to create tangible solutions for their communities. Solutions that solve problems like lack of resources for LGBTQ+ community and over-policing and police brutality.
During our early years, we worked with people effected by voter suppression. This was important because of the rampant gerrymandering and erasure of votes in NC. As Ignite NC grew, we shifted to include a more comprehensive strategy to address multiple issues and the interlocking oppressions young people face in North Carolina like policing in schools while simultaneously being defunded. Today, we work with college and community organizers to implement inclusive and accessible education, to creating safe spaces in our communities for marginalized people, to realize reproductive justice, and the list goes on.
Our goal is to train up a critical mass of young people who will transform their communities along with electoral and academic institutions on multiple levels. We are positioning young people to move the needle on progressive culture in North Carolina, and to win strategic campaigns on safety and wellness for marginalize communities throughout the state. This summer, we have embarked on a process to revamp our fellowship program to provide the resources young organizers need in 2020.
