Foster Care Information

Thank you for your interest in being a foster home. Helping All Little Things will provide you with a cage, food bowl and water bottle and of course the guinea pig(s). If you already have supplies, you are more than welcome to use what you already have. We also cover veterinary care as long as the guinea pig(s) are seen by our rescue vet, Dr. Lisa Aumiller of House Paws Mobile Vet. If you suspect that your foster pig(s) is ill or injured please contact me (Danielle Challender-Clark) at info@haltrescue.com. If you do not live in close proximity to our vet, Jimmy or I will meet you to pick up the pig(s) and bring them to our vet. Extreme emergencies are handled on a case by case basis.

As a foster home, it will be your responsibility to provide your fosters with a healthy diet and lots of love until we find a forever home for them. We highly encourage quality pellets such as Kleenmama, Oxbow, Sweet Meadow or Mazuri. High quality hay is also an essential part of a guinea pig’s diet. You can usually find inexpensive, fresh hay at your local farm store. We will also send you an attachment of basic guinea pig care which has cost saving tips on hay and pellets and links to healthy veggies which also should be given on a daily basis.

We will let you know when someone expresses interest in your foster pig(s) and confirm with you their adoption date so that you can bring them to our house or if you live further away we can meet you at a neutral location to exchange fosters. I handle all of the applications and adoptions so that you do not have to worry about dealing with the public if you do not wish to.
You can foster for as long or as short as you like. If your fosters get adopted and you wish to continue fostering, we will give you a new set of fosters (and we are always grateful for long term fosters!). In the event you decide you love your fosters and cannot part with them, you will of course have first preference of them.

If you have any questions please feel free to email me at info@haltrescue.com.

We look forward to working with you. Thank you again for your interest in fostering!
