Chester County Commissioners313 West Market St.West Chester, PA 19380
You have received numerous letters urging you to take action to help protect the Chester County community from ongoing contamination at the Bishop Tube site in East Whiteland Township. We have urged you to⇒ stand with the community to advocate that the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection prioritize full clean up of the highly contaminated site, ⇒ oppose a partial remediation and associated development proposal that would leave our communities and environment exposed to dangerous toxins while full cleanup remains elusive, ⇒ oppose the gift of a $1 million grant from the Industrial Sites Reuse Program (ISRP) to the developer to advance the partial remediation and associated development project ⇒ take steps to ensure no county entity gets involved in any way that would help secure the ISRP grant to support partial remediation and development, and ⇒ join our effort to secure protection of a fully cleaned Bishop Tube site as natural open space that benefits our environment and communities.
Despite all our outreach, you have remained silent.
We assume your silence is intended to communicate a need for more information rather than asserting a county position that opposes the well being and goals of our community. Therefore we submit this request that you provide us 30 minutes of time at your September or October Commissioners meeting to share with you vital information about the site, the current proposal, and our goals for its future.
Please contact Maya van Rossum, the Delaware Riverkeeper, at 215 369 1188 x 102 to arrange for such a presentation. The Delaware Riverkeeper Network has been an active member of our growing community coalition focused on this effort. With regards,
