WHAT and WHY?
We believe that in order to actively fight against systemic racism, people who benefit from light-skinned privilege have an obligation to show up for our non-white siblings through awareness, articulation and action. Together, we Maroon: this is an invitation to a "season*" of political education and action in alignment with our values: Read 'em here! 

Season 23 = 8 Saturdays over the course of 4 months

We believe political education and informed collective action is the strongest way to pre-figure a new society for all. In this group, we are learning to work together, clarify our commitments, and gather our resources for a sustainable process of revolutionary praxis. Together we move from shared, principled theory into Maroon-based, real-world practice. 

WHEN and WHERE?
We meet every 3rd and 4th Saturday from 2-3:30pm EST.

FOR WHO? 
This group speaks to people who experience light-skinned privilege and are committed to this unified struggle for authentic collective liberation. Come as you are! We offer break out time for white-passing Multiracial affinity spaces when it's called for.  

HOW to SHOW UP: 
Just show up. ALL VOICES / ALL levels of experience needed. As long as you are on the side of the people you are welcome.

Baseline expectations:
          Time: 2-3:30pm, two Saturdays a month via zoom.
                     About 30 mins of homework/reading for session preparation.
                     Sending one accountability buddy text between each session. 
         Energy/ Money:
                    Movement of financial resources, as white people drawing our education and energy of praxis
                    from Black and Brown histories or leadership. We are here to support you in gathering funds.
        Communication: 
                   Clear communication of your capacity to show up:
                             Will you be joining the next session? Would you appreciate getting a reminder text/call?
                             Can you prepare beforehand or watch the recording? 
                             If you don’t respond, do you want to keep receiving invites?

What/ who brings you to this space? *
What background experience, unique superpowers, or relevant passions and projects are you grounded in? For example: "I cook a mean rice and beans!" We need all hands on deck for the revolution !! <3 
For this season of political education, White Maroons Members pay reparations in the same way other groups pay dues. 

To honor the decades of pedagogical & critical work & organizing—for political prisoners, prisoners of war, supporting the families, contributing to cultural and political campaigns for sustainability, etc.

We ask those that are able to pay contribute a minimum of $121 for the Season. 

For some perspective, this is only $20 a session or $10 an hour (not taking into account the preparation and curriculum development time).

If you find yourself in a position of privilege, we ask you to pay more. This allows us to pay it forward. Facilitators are not paid, instead your contribution allows us to continue this soul work by paying presenters, offering youth stipends and more (see below).

If you don't have the resources, we encourage you to mobilize people in your circles that can support you to contribute to this school. 

Please internally clarify what these working and resourcing sessions are worth for you, and externally show up by offering that. Please contribute as much as you can, in any way that you can, especially if you can't make it to some of the sessions. Notice how it feels for you to commit to paying these reparations and follow through on it.

More information: 
No one turned away for lack of funds, and your contribution allows us to continue this work, specifically the maroon party for liberation, our parent group. the Maroon Party is formation of unpaid pedagogues, artists and revolutionary organizers. We have been and are working around the clock with youth, elders, organizers and grassroots movements.

Funds raised go to stipends for our BIPOC youth and young non-binary maroon artists that are organizing and creating art for multiple projects, such as the "Legacy Youth Chapter," "STOP KILLING US" a youth led conference with partnering with The STOLEN LIVES PROJECT. Funds will also go towards our youth summer art and music camps, passing on the legacy of maroonage!! In other words, Black Brown and Indigenous people do not pay for participation, we invest in our people so they can participate. 

We have worked closely with the families who had their children's lives stolen and taken from us all for almost 2 decades.  This past years in July and September, we planned local actions with Eric Garner's family on Staten Island, New York, to remember not to forget. As the headlines change the highlights change, but our commitment and revolutionary persistence remains, and this is why we need your change. 

As the elders tell us: “freedom ain't free. give what it means to you. give what you can.”
