NextGen is a program created by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This program uses a modernized navigation system designed to streamline arrivals and departures. Previously, planes arrived and departed using a wider path in the airspace. They now use consolidated paths, creating a thin airline highway above hundreds of thousands of homes.
This is affecting communities in California and throughout the Nation and residents are fighting back.
WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, ARE OVERWHELMED BY THE IMPACT OF NEXTGEN ON CALIFORNIA COMMUNITIES.We are regularly subjected to the relentless noise of planes flying at low altitudes over our homes. These planes often come every few minutes throughout the day, late into the evening, and wake us up at all hours of the night. These loud whining sounds force us to keep our windows shut, prevent us from using our yards or enjoying any peaceful tranquility in our homes. We are also impacted by higher levels of pollution, resulting from the concentration of flights. We refuse to accept this imposition on our lives.
NextGen has also chased away lucrative filming in our historic communities and downtown Los Angeles despite FAA studies claiming there would be no effect on business.
Although this FAA program may work well for the airline industry, it is a complete failure for the hundreds of thousands of people on the ground.
We are asking all officials who receive this petition to provide a publicly shared, viable, serious and not cosmetic statement and action plan which will bring solutions and relief to the problems of low altitude and concentrated flight paths imposed on our communities by NextGen. After you have received these petitions the Quiet Skies Action Committee will be contacting you for your statement and to begin a dialogue on what you are willing to do to help resolve this problem. We will share your answers with the affected communities.
WE HOPE YOU CHOOSE TO STAND WITH THE PEOPLE YOU REPRESENT AND NOT THE AIRLINE INDUSTRY. We look forward to your support.
This petition will be sent to state representatives Governor Jerry Brown, Senator Kamala Harris, Senator Dianne Feinstein, Deputy Governor Gavin Newsom and Dennis Roberts the FAA Regional Administrator for the Western-Pacific Region. It will also be sent to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Deborah Flint, Chief Executive Officer of Los Angeles World Airports.
