The New African American Waterfront Park in Annapolis, Maryland
This new public park will commemorate the ingenuity, innovation, and resilience of Black residents in Annapolis and surrounding areas during the lawful racially segregated period known as “Jim Crow.”

The sharing of stories from this period, and the racial restrictions and opportunities born of segregation, is a substantive part of the Baltimore region's oral history passed down from great-grandparents, grandparents, and parents of the Millennials, Gen X, and Gen Z demographics.

The BoCF has been engaging the community through live/hybrid community conversations in various locations (North County, Annapolis, South County/Lothian, small group conversations with 10-12 participants, large group conversations with 12-20 participants, and virtual community conversations. In addition, we have conducted personal interviews with community members age 75+ recording 1st hand accounts of “Black Joy at the Beach.”
