Youth Express Network (Y-E-N) together with Youth of European Nationalities (YEN), in collaboration with ternYpe International Roma Youth Network are excited to announce a unique opportunity for Roma and non-Roma youth dedicated to advocating for the recognition of the Roma Genocide and promoting remembrance on local, national and international levels. The aim of the activity is to empower young Roma and non-Roma participants with knowledge, awareness, and the motivation to combat antigypsyism, promote inclusivity, and take action as active citizens in their communities, with a particular focus on the 80th anniversary of the Roma Genocide.
The study session objectives are:
1. to encourage participants' critical reflection on the concept of “othering” by examining personal prejudices and biases and understanding their impact on everyday life.
2. to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the historical context of antigypsyism, including the Roma Genocide and its impact on Roma communities as well as to raise awareness of the manifestation of antigypsyism and discrimination nowadays.
3. to motivate young Roma and non-Roma to be advocates for the recognition of Roma and Sinti Holocaust by equipping them with different commemoration techniques and strengthening their activism at their local level as multipliers
4. to empower participants to develop their own action plans to combat antigypsyism by emphasising the importance of remembrance and commemoration in promoting inclusivity and understanding
5. to associate participants with the Council of Europe’s work on the topic of combatting antigypsyism, including Recommendation CM/Rec(2023)4 of the Committee of Ministers to member States on Roma youth participation
Apply if you are:
- Roma and/or non-Roma youth
- eager to learn and share new knowledge
- interested in the study session’s topics and motivated to participate, committed to human rights
- ready to implement a local, national or international follow-up activity
- between the age of 18-30, with some exceptions
- resident of a Council of Europe member states or Kosovo
- want to actively engage and contribute to the outcomes of the study sessions
- open to changing your mindset
- Young Roma and non-Roma working with Roma communities are encouraged to apply!
- We welcome applications from all candidates irrespective of gender, disability, marital or parental status, racial-ethnic or social origin, religious belief or sexual orientation.
Place and time:
The study session will take place in the European Youth Centre of Strasboug, France between 7-11 October, 2024 (travel days are 6th and 12th October).
Logistics and enrolment fee:
All travel and programme costs are covered by the Council of Europe via reimbursement of real costs. The enrolment fee that is not covered is 50 Euro per person. Accommodation is provided in double rooms. We will provide all participants with a detailed logistic information sheet following the confirmation.
The study session's working language is English, however we take into consideration every applications.
