Junior Volunteer Application
The Junior Volunteer (JV) Program provides young adults a first-time work experience while volunteering for their community. Students entering grades 7-12, or graduating in the Class of 2026, may apply for a position as a JV. Please complete this application by June 10th to be considered. The JV Program is sponsored by the Friends of the Clapp Memorial Library.

Students selected for the JV program will volunteer 10-15 hours throughout the summer.
Volunteer tasks may include:
  • manning the Children's Summer Reading Program table
  • helping at library programs under the supervision of library staff
  • assisting at a story time/children's activity
  • sharing a special talent
  • using the copier
  • shelving books
  • and more!
In order to complete the JV Program, students must:
  • Volunteer between 10-15 hours over the course of the summer;
  • Sign up for the library's Teen Summer Reading Program (TSRP); and
  • Read for at least 10 hours, which you can track when you register online for the TSRP.
The Clapp Memorial Library is looking for responsible and friendly young adults who will take the position seriously. Submitting a complete application is very important. Students, not their caregivers, should complete the application (but may use a caregiver's email to do so if they do not have their own). Caregivers are always welcome to communicate questions or concerns with Teen Services Coordinator Ruthie Sterling at rsterling@cwmars.org.

The library greatly appreciates the work JVs do each year and will provide each JV who completes the program with a letter for their school file. JVs frequently ask our librarians to provide them letters of reference after volunteering with us for the summer. Unfortunately, due to the cancellations of the 2026 Friends of the Library Book Sales, the library will be unable to offer Book Sale gift certificates to JVs this year. We are looking into alternative modes of showing our appreciation.

The library may be unable to provide a JV position to all interested students, but we hope all students will participate in one of our Summer Reading Programs.

I have read and I understand the Junior Volunteer Application. If chosen as a JV, I know I need to check my email daily on weekdays for communications from the Library. I understand it is my responsibility to communicate with Library Staff and arrive at the Library on time for my scheduled shift. *
Prospective Junior Volunteer, please enter your name below.
I have read and understand the JV Application and double checked my student's summer schedule and the library's hours. I understand it is my student's responsibility to plan and communicate with the Staff of the Clapp Memorial Library. If my student is using my email to communicate, I understand it is important that my student be responsible and respond to the library's emails themself rather than responding to the emails on my student's behalf. *
