We anticipate having a clearer direction of Board needs in the near future and will consider all applications submitted at that time. Founded in 1973, Pacific Center is the oldest LGBTQIA+ center in the Bay Area, the third oldest in the nation, and operates the only sliding scale mental health clinic for LGBTQIA2+ and QTBIPOC people and their families in Alameda County. Pacific Center offers low cost individual, couples, and family mental health services; HIV support services; peer support groups; and vibrant youth and older adult programs.

This is a special opportunity for anyone who is part of, affiliated with, or an ally to, the LGBTQIA2+ community to lend their expertise in support of Pacific Center’s mission to enhance the mental health and overall well-being of the LGBTQIA+ and QTBIPOC communities by providing culturally responsive therapy, peer to peer support groups, community outreach services, and facilitated workshops. To incorporate strong social justice and trauma-informed frameworks in our clinical training and peer-to-peer support programs that contribute to equitable mental health service delivery. To provide the most comprehensive care possible for all who seek our services.

Pacific Center is specifically looking for people to can bring any of the following skills, expertise, or backgrounds to join the Board:

  • Members of QTBIPOC communities we serve

  • Fundraising experience and / or access to non-profit funding sources

  • Theoretical and organizational DEI expertise

  • Actively working in mental health

  • Financial, legal and marketing functional expertise

  • Non-profit leadership


Pacific Center is seeking Board Members At-Large, as well as officer roles (Secretary, Vice-Chair and Treasurer). QTBIPOC and LGBTQIA+ and Multilingual candidates are especially encouraged to apply.

Applications will need to share why they would like to join the Board and what skills, expertise, and background they will bring that will add value as well as why they are interested in supporting Pacific Center.

Member At-Large Description

Board Members provide important governance to the organization and representation in the community and have the following responsibilities:

  • Support the work of the Executive Director and provide oversight of their performance.

  • Provide leadership in alignment with Pacific Center’s mission and values.

  • Review and input into the strategic plan and monitor the organization’s progress towards achieving established goals and mission.

  • Provide support and expertise to the organization's leadership team and staff in partnership with the Executive Director.

  • Support the Executive Director in oversight of organization.

  • Annually, review and approve the agency budget.

  • Assure that Pacific Center operates in a manner that is fiscally sound.

  • Annually, make a meaningful contribution to Pacific Center that reflects their financial ability.

  • Work with the Board President and Executive Director to solicit and/or provide contacts for contributions from prospects and existing donors for the annual fundraising efforts.

  • Advocate on behalf of Pacific Center – Board Members must be prepared to promote the views of the organization in order to secure funding  and other support for the organization.

  • Represent Pacific Center in the community by promoting its mission, programs and services.

  • Participate in regular (monthly) Board meetings and any additional task/committee work.

Role descriptions for the officer roles (Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer) are defined in our by-laws and available upon request. Board Members are confirmed as At-Large roles first and separate nominations for officer roles may be called at a later date.
