Background and Purpose
Launched in spring 2024, EDGE PODs (Philanthropy Organizing to Deliver) are thematic spaces within EDGE that support collective sensemaking, strategy development, and concrete action. These spaces are initiated by EDGE members who seek a platform to discuss, strategize, and organize around key issues relevant to their work.
The Impact Measurement POD emerged from an open discussion at the EDGE Europe Retreat 2024, where members explored the challenges of conventional impact measurement. Many recognized that existing practices often feel extractive, placing unrealistic demands on regranting organizations and partners while failing to capture meaningful change. At the same time, there is a growing interest in participatory and trust-based approaches to learning and evaluation (L&E), which can better inform funding strategies and strengthen donor-partner relationships.
Objectives
This POD aims to create a community of practice within EDGE, focused on:
Reimagining impact measurement by shifting away from rigid, top-down metrics toward learning-centered and participatory approaches.
Showcasing global examples of progressive L&E practices that prioritize equity and collaboration.
Co-creating guidance and tools that help funders and intermediaries adopt more just and effective evaluation methods.
