Cross Country Interest Form 2022
Please fill out the form if you are interested in being a part of the Junior High & High School Cross Country Team Next Year. IF YOU HAVE NEVER PARTICIPATED IN OUTDOOR RUNNING YOU NEED TO TRY IT; IT DOESN'T HURT TO TRY! We have a top 2 ranked girls team in the state at the High School level, and a returning boys group with extremely high potential. We NEED YOU to continue this success, and we look forward to continuing success with you on the team.
Cross Country participates in a series of races across, grass, mud, hills, and varying course terrain. The 7-9th grades run 2 miles and the 10-12th grades run 3.1 miles. THE 6th GRADE WILL RUN 1 MILE (and have the opportunity to be part of Friday practices for running club) 9th grade has the option of running at the high school level anytime throughout the year with coaches discretion. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A RUNNER TO GET IN SHAPE AND BE PART OF THE TEAM! Running builds endurance for other sports, and gives you fundamental techniques to becoming stronger and a better athlete outside of running! You can run well after you graduate to stay healthy!
Cross Country practice begins in the summer as a preseason warmup leading into the actual season which starts in mid July before school begins. We run trails, through town, and participate in local runs and fun activities. We also lift weights, and do many functional strength activities through bodyweight movement training. Cross Country takes grit, endurance, and hard work; therefore practice begins early mornings or evenings to beat the heat in the summer. During school practices are after school and cross country meets are on Saturday mornings (You will be done by 10am almost all meets). Cross Country meets are fun, lively events, where Gravette Lions Cross Country thrives with an uplifting team environment!! Find out more this upcoming Spring when we have Cross Country time trials and fun team building practices before summer!! PLAN TO HAVE AN INFORMAITONAL MEETING DURING RTI AFTER SPRING BREAK!!
