With Your Small Group:
As a group choose a topic to explore.
  • Either choose a topic related to your research
  • OR choose one of the following topics (the causes of World War I, treatment of women refugees around the world, or the Siege of Leningrad during WWII)
Each student in the group will research the chosen topic.

In groups of 3:
  • 1 student will look for information in an encyclopedia database (such as ABC-CLIO)
  • 1 student will look for information in an article database (such as Gale)
  • 1 student will look for information in a print or ebook.
In groups of 4:
  • 1 student will look for information in an encyclopedia database (such as ABC-CLIO)
  • 1 student will look for information in an article database (such as Gale)
  • 1 student will look for information in a print book
  • 1 student will look for information in an ebook
You will have 10-15 minutes to find and read an article or chapter related to your topic (you do not need to read it in it's entirety).

Discuss with your group:
  • What was difficult about your search?
  • What kind of information did you find?
  • Did you all find the same information, or different types.
  • If you are researching a modern topic, compare the publication dates.
