The October 10 forum will cover several topics that the city council and staff are currently exploring. If you are so inclined, we would appreciate any preliminary comments about the issues below.
Your responses will be used to help us prepare for the event and better understand citizen views. Comments will be separated from your name before the analysis.
A key issue we will be addressing is how the city should respond to the passing of Amendment 64, which allowed the recreational use of marijuana and established a framework for retail businesses. Per the amendment, the city has the option to ban such businesses locally, put the issue on the ballot for the voters, or adopt local regulations regarding the businesses. What is your overall response on this issue?
The city has completed two studies regarding the issue of train horn noise while passing through downtown. We will be asking participants to consider and prioritize potential responses to this issue. What is your overall response to this issue?
The city is beginning the process of updating its 2008 bicycle plan and 2011 Bicycle Safety Education Plan. We will be gathering some feedback on priorities moving forward with the bicycle plan. What is your overall response to this issue?
In August, the city council moved forward with an expansion to the city's smoking ordinance to include smoke-free outdoor dining areas, bar patios, and Transfort's public transit facilities, shelters, and benches. They will formally consider adopting the ordinance on Nov. 5. They are also considering expanding smoke-free requirements to other outdoor areas based on research on the negative impacts of second-hand smoke even when outdoors. On October 10, we will be engaging participants on their views concerning going smoke-free in high-use pedestrian areas such as Old Town, city parks and trails, public events and festivals. What is your overall response to this issue?
