Petworth Playgroup Co-op Application (2020-2021)
NOTE: Applications are due by April 17, 2020

The Petworth Cooperative Playgroup is a collaborative, community-based, and independent cooperative built on the intersections of all members’ skills and resources. Run by parent volunteers and a hired facilitator, we are interested in cultivating a strong community and creative play and learning environment for our children.

To be considered for the 2020-2021 school year, your child must turn 2 by December 31, 2020. If you are interested in enrolling your child, please fill out and submit the application below and someone from the co-op will be in touch. The application deadline is April 16th and the classes are usually filled by the end of May. We do accept applications throughout the year and keep a wait list in case spots open mid-year.

Have you previously served on the Petworth Co-op board? *
If yes, please provide the name of the board member and year of service. *
How did you learn about the Petworth Co-op? *
If you learned of the co-op from a current family, please let us know who referred you!
Why do you believe that a play-based, parent-led cooperative model is a good fit for your child and family? *
Tell us how your family's experience and interests (both professional and otherwise) would help to support the community and strengthen the co-op. *
Each family must participate as a duty parent in the classroom once every 2-3 weeks. You may also be called upon to serve as the “back-up” duty parent in the event the facilitator or scheduled duty parent is unable to serve. As a result, you may be asked to complete a basic background check and verify your immunizations consistent with DCPS parent volunteer policies. Please confirm that you are able to make this commitment and describe the extent that each parent/guardian is able to make this commitment. *
Each family must agree to lead and participate in community building and other co-op activities outside of the classroom. This may include cleaning and organizing the classroom and stocking it with appropriate supplies, organizing outreach activities to recruit new families, planning play dates and family potlucks, and other events. Do you agree to initiate, plan and participate in such events and if so, what types of activities are you interested in leading? *
Our co-op cannot operate without parent volunteers to serve on the co-op board. We are actively seeking new members who can contribute energy and resources to provide facilitator support, liaise with the facility’s representatives, recruit new families and facilitate the development of class rosters, organize community events, and maintain our finances. A commitment to joining the board includes attending approximately three in-person meetings per semester, participating in conference calls as needed to address issues as they arise, and responding to emails about the overall management of the co-op. It also requires flexibility, a sense of humor, and willingness to work as part of a team in an informal and decentralized manner. Are you interested in making a one-year commitment to join our board? *
