2018-19 Every Day Counts! Taskforce Student Representative Application
Every Day Counts! (EDC!) is a citywide effort initiated by Mayor Muriel Bowser to ensure every student attends school every day. EDC! aims to bring together the entire community to support students and families through a public awareness campaign, a Taskforce coordinating public agencies and stakeholders, and investments in data-driven strategies to increase attendance.
EDC’s Taskforce—a partnership between a diverse group of agencies and stakeholders that collectively advance and coordinate strategies to increase student attendance— is currently seeking new Student Representatives for the 2018-2019 school year. Representatives will receive community service hours for their participation!
The #1 qualification is that you are interested in addressing attendance barriers for students and families AND will seek the input of peers to inform your perspective on the Task Force!
To qualify you must:
• Be a resident of the District of Columbia;
• Be enrolled in the 9-12th grades at a public or public charter school in the District of Columbia
As a Student Representative you will:
• Attend and participate in bi-monthly EDC! Taskforce meetings held on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons (4:00-5:30pm during the school year;
• Share student and youth perspectives on truancy, absenteeism and related issues;
• Represent peers’ interests, experiences, and needs across the city; and
• Participate in Taskforce-sponsored events and programs.
Important Notes:
• Strong attendance is NOT a requirement for this position. We value the perspective that students are able to bring to the EDC! Taskforce on issues related to chronic absenteeism and truancy through their experiences at school, with peers or personal experiences.
• If you foresee transportation to be an issue, please do not hesitate to apply. We will work with you to make necessary arrangements to ensure your presence at needed meetings and events.
