2019 Lilith Fund Board Application
Lilith Fund is a Texas-based abortion fund that provides direct financial assistance to people seeking abortion care in the central and southern regions of Texas. Our volunteer board of directors serves as a governing board that provides guidance, oversight, and support to our staff of eight.

We are looking for highly motivated people who are passionate about reproductive justice and excited about furthering the work to expand abortion access in Texas. We are looking for individuals who live in or around Austin, Houston, and San Antonio, which are the major cities we serve. Our board meets monthly via video conference call. We also hold quarterly in-person meetings rotating between San Antonio, Austin and Houston.

Lilith Fund is especially looking for board members with a background in financial management and planning, information technology and information security, or non-profit organizational management. Ideal candidates will have some fundraising experience and an understanding of the state of abortion access in Texas.

Lilith Fund is committed to investing in the leadership of people of color, people who have had abortions and/or who have received funding from an abortion fund(s), low-income people, people with disabilities, immigrant people, Native people, formerly incarcerated people, queer people, and trans people. We do not discourage or discriminate against people with criminal justice involvement, and you will not be asked if you have ever been convicted of a crime on the application or interview.

We envision a world where every reproductive decision, including abortion, takes place in thriving communities that are safe, peaceful, and affordable. We envision a world where all people have the power and resources to care for and affirm their bodies, identities, and health for themselves and their families—in all areas of their lives. As we shift the conversation about abortion, it will become a real option, accessible without shame or judgment. The Lilith Fund has an all-volunteer board. As a part of the board, you must commit to 8-20 hours a month towards board activities. The amount of time spent per week dedicated to board activities can vary depending on the time of year. Board members are generally expected to: attend a board conference call once a month; actively keep in communication through phone, email and slack; actively participate in fundraising and outreach events in your city; attend in-person board meetings (with rotating locations), trainings and retreats; attend the date of your first meeting/on-boarding. Please assess your ability to make the time commitment: *
Because our board spans multiple cities throughout Texas, much of the board’s work is done via various communication and collaboration tools (Slack, email, Google Suite, Google Hangouts, GoTo Meeting, and messaging apps). Board members are expected to be in contact with others on a regular basis. Often, timely responses are necessary in order to meet deadlines and ensure that the board’s business is achieved. Are you comfortable with the aforementioned communication and collaboration tools? Are there any potential challenges you foresee? *
Your answer
Lilith Fund meetings and events take place in several cities throughout Texas (primarily Houston, San Antonio, and Austin). Are you willing to travel (sometimes at your own expense or with the assistance of travel reimbursements) to other cities for some board meetings, trainings, retreats, and fundraisers? *
Your answer
Lilith Fund’s board is in the process of making the transition from a working board to a governing board, where the board activities include advising the organization and big-picture planning. You can read more about that difference here: http://bit.ly/BoardsMatter. Why are you drawn to serve our organization and movement in this particular role, as a governing board member? *
