This second survey (in the series of UFS Application Surveys) delves deeper into metrics deemed to be most critical according to the responses of our prior survey. Specifically, we will be asking you about different characteristics of the fields, such as vertical levels and accumulations. We will also ask about the needed temporal requirements for verification of each field. 𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐚 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐩 𝐢𝐭.
In the first survey, participants ranked the most critical fields in each section for coastal and marine forecasting as follows:
MARINE:
SST (4.48/5)
Wind Speed (4.33/5)
Significant Wave Height (4.18/5)
COASTAL:
Inundation (4.34/5)
Wave Height (4.33/5)
Tides (4.17/5)
Wind Direction (3.95/5)
Full results of the first survey can be found on the Pre-Workshop Survey 1 page:

This second survey will refine our initial prioritization from the first survey, and one final survey will be forthcoming to assess the need for specific metrics and observational datasets. These topics will also be discussed at the Metrics Workshop (

Thank you for your time and input into the UFS testing and evaluation process!
