Stef Lemmens onderzoekt hoe vezels uit brandnetels kunnen worden gewonnen en verwerkt tot textiel en deelt zijn kennis in deze workshop Van netel tot textiel.
Na het oogsten van de netels tijdens een wandeling in het Kapermolen Park in Hasselt, leer je hoe je brandnetels kunt omvormen tot een natuurlijke vezel door middel van plukken, roten, pellen, schrapen, wrijven, kaarden en weven. Ontdek de verborgen kwaliteiten van deze vaak ongewenste plant en ervaar het ambachtelijke proces van plant tot stof.
Stef was geïnspireerd door Allan Brown, die al een lange tijd netels onderzoekt. Je vindt meer hierover via Nettles for Textiles.

Locatie: De workshop zal doorgaan bij Nomad City, Gouverneur Verwilghensingel 5 in Hasselt.
Prijs: Binnen Nomad City hanteren we het “pay what you can” principe. Hierbij kies je zelf je bijdrage. Als richtlijn vragen we voor deze workshop 20 EUR, maar je bent vrij om minder of meer te geven naargelang je eigen financiële situatie.

Stef Lemmens explores how fibres can be extracted from stinging nettles and processed into textile, and shares this knowledge in the workshop From Nettle to Textile.
After harvesting nettles during a walk through Kapermolen Park in Hasselt, you will learn how to transform stinging nettles into a natural fibre through picking, retting, peeling, scraping, rubbing, carding, and weaving. Discover the hidden qualities of this often unwanted plant and experience the craft-based process from plant to cloth.

Location: The workshop will happen at the Nomad City settlement, Gouverneur Verwilghensingel 5 in Hasselt.

Price: Within Nomad City, we use a “pay what you can” principle. This means you choose your own contribution. As a guideline, we suggest €20 for this workshop, but you are free to give less or more depending on your financial situation.

De afgelopen maanden ging een team van vrijwilligers aan de slag om een demonteerbare gemeenschapsruimte te ontwerpen die het kloppende hart van Nomad City zal worden. Na heel wat brainstormsessies en schetswerk kunnen we eindelijk fysiek aan de slag. In een eerste fase zullen we zelf strobaal panelen bouwen voor de vloer en wanden. Over the past few months, a team of volunteers has been working to design a modular community space that will become the beating heart of Nomad City.
