Weekend Non-Residential Insight Meditation Retreat at the Insight Meditation Center
Offered by Tanya Wiser

Location: Insight Meditation Center (IMC) located at 108 Birch Street, Redwood City, CA

Dates and Times:

  • Friday, September 5 – 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM

  • Saturday, September 6 – 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM

  • Sunday, September 7 – 9:20 AM to 3:00 PM
(On Sunday we will participate in the community sit at 9:20, Tanya will give the community dharma talk at 10:00 and then the retreatants will enjoy lunch together at Stafford Park on Sunday while Dharma Sprouts meets before we return to the center for our final session.)

Rest the mind, abide moment by moment in embodied presence, and nourish the heart.

Join us for a weekend of dedicated practice in this non-residential retreat. Together, we will cultivate wise and compassionate mindfulness—in silence and stillness, in community (sangha), and in the flow of daily life.

This retreat offers a supportive environment to deepen your meditation practice through:

  • Guided and silent sitting meditations

  • Walking meditation

  • Practice discussions

  • Mindfulness integrated into everyday activities

Whether you're new to retreat practice or have sat many retreats, this retreat invites you to explore the richness of present-moment awareness—both on and off the cushion.

This retreat is offered freely, as a gift to all who attend. There is no fee. At the end of the retreat, there will be an opportunity to offer *dana* (a voluntary donation) to support IMC and the teacher.

Wholehearted Commitment to the Retreat
By registering for this retreat, you are committing to attend the entire retreat—from the opening session through the closing on Sunday. Just as in a residential retreat, your full participation supports both your own practice and the collective container of the sangha.

Please plan to arrive on time each day and stay for the full duration. We ask that participants refrain from coming and going during the day. This commitment helps create a stable, settled environment where deep practice can unfold.

Unplugging as Practice
A valuable aspect of retreat practice is letting go of our digital devices. To support the depth of meditation and give the mind a true rest, we encourage minimal use of phones, email, and the internet during the retreat.

By registering, you agree to limit your device use as much as possible throughout the weekend. This helps create a supportive and focused environment for yourself and the community.

Mindful Service – Yogi Jobs
An important part of the retreat experience is caring for the space in which we practice. At residential retreats, this is often called “Yogi Jobs”—simple tasks done in the spirit of mindfulness and community. These may include chopping vegetables, washing dishes, sweeping, tidying restrooms, or putting away food after meals.

For this non-residential retreat, we will also invite everyone to participate in a Yogi Job. It’s a meaningful way to express gratitude and care for IMC, support one another, and bring practice into daily activities.
