Melville Water Polo Club will commence Junior State League (JSL) trials soon. These trials are for players who are interested in playing in a more competitive environment over summer. All players who are selected into the final teams will be expected to attend training sessions and swim squad regularly throughout the entire season (T4 2022 and T1 2023). Current Flippaball, Conference and JSL players from
2009-2012 who are interested, are invited to complete this form by
MONDAY 15TH AUGUST.
Trials will be held at Bicton pool over the next few weekends, commencing 20th August. Specific trial dates and times for each group will be sent to those players who register through this form.
IMPORTANT NOTES TO PARENTS:
Children must already be strong swimmers, be able to egg beater and throw and catch a ball in the water. If your child is currently unable to demonstrate all of these foundation skills, please do not send them to the trials. We have PoloSwim and PoloSkills programs to assist your child to develop those skills, and help to prepare them for the upcoming Flippa season.
Our club selectors are very experienced coaches and players. They are able to identify the specific skills and attributes that we are looking for at the trials. All players will be assessed on the following:
1. swim testing
2. static egg beater
3. walking forward with a ball
4. walking backward with a ball
5. dribbling
6. passing and catching
7. game play (involvement, team work, making space, covering... NOT JUST SHOOTING!)
The number of children trialling in each age group will determine whether second and subsequent trials are required. Players will be assessed against their peers at the trial as the expected skill level of 2012 players is very different to the skills of 2009 players.
Please understand that this is our competition pathway and the more competitive environment is not suited to all children and parents. If your child is unable to commit to the training requirements, we would suggest they remain in the Flippaball/Saturday Juniors pathway.
