Inevitable Instructors along with ISTE's Games & Simulations Network will be holding their next book club from July 20 - August 12, 2015.
The book club we will be reading is Ready Player One with 2 tracks inside it.
1) Ingress - we'll be looking at this mobile game and that elements it has in common with Alternate Reality Games and also Massively Multi-Player games.
2) Dystopian Arcade, inspired by Jon Spike's class
and we will be playing and reporting on the game Ingress https://www.ingress.com/.
And of course, the book club will include a a facilitated discussion of what school would look like if it was in a game.
You can choose to just read the book without doing either of the tracks, but of course we hope you'll join us.
The site for the book club will be a Google Site, asynchronous discussion will be held in a Google + Community and synchronous sessions will be over Twitter and Google Hangout livestreamed on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/gamesmooc.
This is an open book club for all educators. The model for the book club is based on social network knowledge construction. Participating instructors will be able to be active in the book club in several ways from lurking (reading the discussions) to actively creating content. It is expected that each participant’s level of activity will vary each week based on the individual’s interest in the weekly topics. Besides the content area, there will be the opportunity for you as an educator to build your game based learning PLN (Personal Learning Network).
