Assignment I for HONS 280 -- Getting to Know You (A Science and Sound Biography)
Fill out the following by the beginning of our second day of class (1/10/20). It shouldn't take too long. We'll talk a bunch on the first day to get your science and musical biography, but this is a way for me to make sure I have all this information somewhere that I can refer back to if necessary.
What is your name?
What is your major? (If still undecided, what do you think is the most likely major you will choose?) If you have more than one major, list the one you would consider your "primary" major.
Do you sing? If so -- what is your vocal range? (soprano, alto, tenor, baritone, bass?) Alternatively, you can specify your range in terms of standard piano notes (e.g. a typical alto would be F3-F5). If you sing, but don't know any of this, just say "I sing, but I don't know my range" or something similar.
Do you play any musical instruments? If so, which one(s)? Do you own/have access to them in order to bring them to class at some point in the semester?
Do you believe you have "perfect pitch"?
Clear selection
Do you have any audio recording experience? If so, briefly describe your experiences.
Have you ever used an oscilloscope?
Clear selection
Which of the following tools have you used? (Only check the box if you've used the program or tool in question for at least several hours.)
List the 3 most advanced math classes you've ever taken (so far).
List the 3 most advanced physics classes you've ever taken (so far). (If you have never taken a physics class, that's ok -- don't worry!)
Do you know what a Fourier Transform is?
Clear selection
Give me a brief (couple of paragraphs) musical autobiography. What's your background? What type of music do you like to listen to? What sort of training or experience do you have in music performance and/or production?
Give me 3 questions appropriate to this course that you (i) currently don't know the answer to, and (ii) would like to learn the answer to during this course.
From your perspective, what would you consider "success" for this class to be? What would you like to get out of this class?
