Big Spoon Lil Spoon Mississauga Volunteer Application - Winter 2021
Big Spoon 'Lil Spoon is a student-run organization that include weekly cooking classes and life-skills workshops at various locations for children with exceptionalities and their siblings.
Big Spoon ‘Lil Spoon is an initiative created to help children with disabilities learn important day to day skills. Each child with an intellectual disability and their siblings or "lil spoon" is paired with a student or "big spoon" and together they learn cooking skills and other life skills through our weekly classes. The goal of the program is to help teach children life skills while at the same time developing a positive relationship with an older mentor. The program strives to teach healthy living practices and to raise awareness for children with exceptionalities.
Due to the current circumstances, we will be postponing in-person classes and will be holding classes completely online over Zoom.
Our mentorship program will be held on Sundays 6:30-7:30pm starting February 7, where each volunteer will connect with a Lil Spoon through online communication once a week. The duration of these calls and the activities you choose to participate in are up you and the Lil Spoon you are paired up with.
Our virtual cooking classes will be held on Sundays 5:00-6:00pm starting February 28 where volunteers will act as mentors for children with intellectual disabilities. Volunteers will be placed into groups with other volunteers and Lil Spoons help them follow recipes. The winter term program will run for 5 weeks.
Application deadline is on Sunday Jan 24th @ 11:59pm
