1 - Never: No evidence of practice, poor care of instrument and materials
2 - Rarely: Signs of minimal practice, slow progression of musical advancement
3 - Sometimes: Usually brings materials and shows signs of adequate practice
4 - Often: Good care of instrument and materials, musical progress result of regular practice
5 - Always: Well prepared for lesson, musical progress shows evidence of thorough practice
Able to focus on lesson and behave well despite any distractions or emotions.
1 - Never: Easily distracted, frequent outburts of anger, frustration or sadness, poor behavior control
2 - Rarely: Often distracted, attempts to control behavior and emotions, but quickly loses control
3 - Sometimes: Sometimes distracted from lesson, able to control behaviors and emotions some of the time
4 - Often: Displays few signs of distraction, rarely loses control of behaviors and emotions
5 - Always: Extremely attentive, displays appropriate control over behaviors and emotions
Shows confidence in musical ability and is sure of self in other realms.
1 - Never: Displays low self esteem, unwilling to try new things
2 - Rarely: Willing to try new things but easily discouraged
3 - Sometimes: Able to show confidence in strengths, willing to try new things, sometimes discouraged
4 - Often: Typically confident in playing instrument and trying new things, not easily discouraged, positive self esteem
5 - Always: Extremely confident in self and musical ability
Recognizes acheivements and enjoys meeting goals and improvising.
1 - Never: Dreads playing music
2 - Rarely: Easily discouraged after making mistakes
3 - Sometimes: Sometimes seems unsure of difficult pieces, but proud of music they master
4 - Often: Not easily discouraged after mistakes, enjoys playing songs they know and improvising
5 - Always: Eager to perform for others, enjoys learning new songs and improvising
