Ukrainian maidens began preparing various items for marriage in early youth, slowly filling a wooden trunk with a number of sorochkas (embroidered blouses), rushnyks (ritual cloths), and other personal and household items that would be used in their marital home.When it came time to marry, the custom of creating, carrying, and placing the wedding tree in significant locations during the various stages of a traditional wedding celebration was an integral part of this important social rite of passage
