Wild Turkey Sample Submission Form
The Iowa DNR, in partnership with Iowa State University, is conducting a research study looking for the presence of lymphoproliferative disease (LPDV), a relatively new disease involving wild turkeys that has been found in other states and may be making its way to Iowa. The study is designed to look for the presence of the disease in Iowa and, if it’s here, where is it and at what extent?
Successful hunters are asked to save one lower leg for disease testing. Simply cut the leg at the joint between the feathered portion of the leg (drumstick) and the scaled part of the lower leg, wrap the scaled portion in a paper towel, place it in a zip top bag and freeze it. Please record your Customer ID Number and turkey tag registration number, as this will be required with submission. (Easiest way is to save the leg with your tag on it for submission)
When you are ready to submit a leg for testing, please complete the below form and the DNR will mail you an envelope and instructions for submitting the sample.
Thank you in advance for your assistance with this very important effort.
