Intro to Cooperative Community Development Training Program
We are very excited to be launching our Intro to Cooperative Community Development training program. This condensed 6-week introductory training will be taking place on Wednesday evenings from May to June with two in-person training sessions two Saturdays in June.

Course Information:

This 6-week training program is an introduction to cooperative community development. Participants will learn about the basic principles of community building, cooperative development, and worker organizing through the people, power, and change framework.

We'll cover both contemporary and historic cooperative development models including the cooperative network development of the Mondragon region of the Basque region of Northern Spain, the Antigonish Movement of Canada's Maritimes, Inuit cooperatives of northern Turtle Island, and the indigenous cooperatives of Oaxaca, Mexico.

At the end of this course, participants will be positioned to launch union cooperative development projects that support precarious workers and solve pressing community issues. This course is designed for practicing community developers, organizers, and freelance workers looking to launch their own cooperative development projects. Course graduates will receive a course certificate to assist in the pursuit of meaningful employment at community associations, neighbourhood houses, cooperatives, non-profits, and labour unions.

This is a hands-on applied learning course operating under the adult education principles. Participants should be prepared for a minimum of 6 hours of coursework weekly:

    •    1.5 hours of class instruction per week
    •    30 minutes of small group discussion
    •    2.5 hours of outside course work (short readings and videos)
