We are a community of makers, institutions, local manufacturers and donors that have mobilized during the COVID-19 pandemic to address PPE shortages in Ottawa. We initially focused on supporting hospitals and clinics through our partnership with CHEO and have delivered over 8000 shields so far. We are now looking to expand to support the broader community for near and medium-term needs. We plan to provide face shields that are comfortable and easy to re-use, our test pieces so far have received great feedback from community users! These are not however, medically certified and are considered consumer-grade.

We want to continue to operate on the basis of donations and will not be making any sales. We are looking for partners who can donate funds, materials, manufacturing or assembly capabilities or labour to further scale up this program. We have seen requests from a range of organizations and community workers including personal support workers, nurses and care providers at clinics and retirement homes, pharmacies, therapists and counselors, and retail stores, because of which we think there is a need. But we want to assess this need first before we launch so we can scale up accordingly or not.
