Roots and Wings is an OPIRG Kingston working group that serves youth of colour between the ages of 8 and 14. Our programming is targeted towards girls/femme, trans, Two-Spirit, and gender non-conforming adolescents. Through Roots and Wings, we create space for youth to engage in structured and enjoyable activities centered around heritage building, community engagement, identity exploration, skill development, and social justice.
Time: Saturdays 1:30-3pm
Types of activities: arts and crafts, music, field trips, farm tours, self-defence, indoor and outdoor games
performing and circus arts, etc.
Topics of discussion: Health, Nutrition, Body image, Identity, Consent, Environment, Race and racism, Human migration, Mindfulness, and more!

For the purpose of cohesion in our programming and centering strong friendships amongst the youth, we invite you to commit to coming to the full series of workshops throughout the 2024-2025 school year (of course with the understanding that things may arise).
